Biggest Mistakes during IIT JEE Preparations

Hello friends! During our preparatory period we go through a lot of things happening around and couldn’t figure out where we are going wrong and what steps should be taken to overcome this!

I’ll be sharing the 5 worst mistakes done by JEE aspirants during their JEE preparations.

  • Ignoring the basics: The main building block for anything is its base, same goes with your preparations. Students preparing for JEE mostly think that it’s the the high level advanced questions that will matter the most and that’s where they start missing out the basics. The basics are the building loack of your JEE preparations. People often jump to advance books and test series ignoring the NCERT, whereas, if you actually notice most of JEE Main questions can be solved if you have thoroughly gone through your NCERT. So, use the advanced books and study materials but keep your basics clear.
  • Excess Study Material: One thing that everyone should keep in mind is that excess of anything is harmful. More study material doesn’t always mean more knowledge. I have seen students having so much that it becomes impossible to manage things properly. Most of the time the study material or the books are just a show piece on your book shelf. We just buy or take whatever is available to us or is recommended by people. Try avoiding that, use limited books, learn and understand them thoroughly. Completing a single book 100% is better than reading 20% of 10 books.
  • Not having a proper time table: Planning is a crucial step in any field. Unplanned studies take you nowhere and often leave you stressed as you don’t have a track of what all has been done and what has to be done. Plan your studies accordingly. I have posted “How to make a perfect Time-Table!” Read the post and prepare a suitable time table.
  • Trying out a lot of teaching or coaching option: As a student we always think that we should be getting the best if we are paying for something. To some extent this seems right but what actually happens is we waste our time and effort in exploring teachers and coaching. Most of the students attend multiple coaching classes and tutions while they prepare for their exams which lead to insufficient time for self-study. Avoid this by getting suggestions from your seniors who have performed well in the exams and go with the trusted teachers and coaching. Finding the right teacher is a very important task and should be done without any compromises. Find a teacher who is good enough and stick to his teachings and suggestions.
  • Test Series: Choose the test series wisely because they have to match the level of exams you are preparing for. If the test series have irrelevant questions which are not in standard to the exam you are preparing for and have much higher level than required it will bring down your moral which will affect your preparations. Same is the case with test series which are low standard. With the low level of questions you will get a pseudo feeling that you are prepared to face the exam but in the end will fall in the final exam. So, that’s why having a test series with the same level of questions as in the main exam is necessary.

These are the 5 mistakes that you should be avoiding while you prepare for your JEE exams. There are more mistakes to the list that students do which I will be sharing in another post. Keeping these things in mind prepare for your JEE exams.

All the best buddies!
